Here is a 5 step creative guide to Problem Solving by IBM I have found on the edX platform to perfectly fit any critical situation.

1. Ask questions: Why/What is the problem.

2. Analyse.

3. Explore. Brainstorm ideas with the team (by looking outside one’s experience and area of expertise.

4. Explore/Find solutions:

Select the best type of solution:

- Corrective solution: finds the root cause of the problem;

- An adaptive solution: accommodates the problem;  - Contingent solution: a solution in advance; Multiple solutions can be found to a single problem solving challenge.

If time is important, one person should take the decision. If quality implementation has a significant role, we should involve stakeholders and experts. In the case of buy in, a team should work on a decision. The best solution often is highly effective and is easy to implement.

5. Implement: Successful outcome is measurable and we need to define the steps and criteria for the success according to the desired outcome. Build a plan with your team and measure the effectiveness of the solution.
